I recently received an email from one of the co-founders of a most excellent site: Early Earners . I'm a big fan of making finances simple and spreading the word about starting savings young, and Early Earners does just that. The site started out directed towards kids, teens and their parents, but has recently expanded to include a "Save for Yourself" section that is geared towards our demographic here at Young and Broke : young adults interested in learning more about saving and personal finance. One of the key features of Early Earners is that it connects people with accounts that will work best for their needs, promoting a very simple and easy "$1 a day" concept - who can't handle that?! The Save for Yourself page also includes some easy calculators, like "For the price of a coffee" that calculates the free new jersey credit report mount you could save if you forgo your daily $3 coffee for a 5.10%APY savings account: Curious? After 20 years, that's $37,497. Early Earners is going to be expanding in the near future to include info on Roth and Rollover IRAs for people in their 20s and 30s. Check it out, if not for yourself, but perhaps for your child, younger sibling, neice/nephew, $ ignorant brother in law, etc.
